Classical Ballet as our basis for training

Please note not all classes are offered every session. Class offerings are adjusted every session based on number of enrolled students in each level.
Our program is based on a foundation of classical ballet training.   It is our belief that with proper ballet training all other forms of dance can be learned and learned well.  Ballet provides training in proper body alignment, strength building of the entire body, along with an in-depth awareness between mind, body and spirit as it relates to the art form of dance.

Boys and Girls alike can dance with our studio.  In fact, we are always looking for more boys in our program.

Class Offerings

Preschool Class
:  This class is 40 minutes long and is for ages 2 1/2 to 5.
Preschool is the perfect time to capture the musicality within your child.  The connection of music with movement improves the development of motor skills.  The preschool class will learn the five fundamental positions of the feet and arms, port de bras (carriage of the arms), and an introductory overview of ballet terminology and movement. Our preschool class also engages in creative movement and expressive freestyle.  Maria is our primary instructor for our preschool class - under the supervision of Mrs. Lisa.  This class meets Mondays, 3:00 - 3:40 pm.   Our preschoolers will be invited to participate in our 2018 - 2019 Musical Drama Ballet.

(NEW) Preschool Class: Pending class enrollment.  We are creating a Thursday, 4:00 pm preschool ass for students and families that are unable to attend the Monday class OR for parents who want a two day per week option.  Please call Mrs. Lisa at 612.991.9556 to inquire how this may come together.  Our newly formed preschooler class will be invited to participate in our 2018 - 2019 Musical Drama Ballet.

(NEW) Beginner Transitional Class: This class is designed for our preschool (and newly placed students) to attend a 90 minute one day per week class.  This class is NOT intended for our students who have achieved placement in our Elite Petite level classes but is rather for our 2017-2018 preschoolers who are moving into a newly formed group of students.  This class will meet on Thursday afternoons, again, pending enrollment.  We need at least 8 - 10 students to make this class work with our studio schedule.  If we are unable to pool 8 - 10 students this class will become a semi-private class and fees will be adjusted accordingly.

Elite Petite: This class is a 60 minute class that meets two days per week and is for  age range 5 to 10.     Students may be place in this class upon a placement assessment by our instructors.  This is also a good place for a returning student who is five years and older to learn the foundation of classical ballet along with other forms of dance (including tap, jazz, and some hip hop).  The class is broken down into 10 minutes of intentional training about stretching and strength, with 30 minutes of classical ballet technique training, using the remaining 10 to 20 minutes for tap and/or jazz. Students begin to learn stretch and strength & barre exercises, centre work, and across the floor work in demi-pointe.  This class is designed to foster and prepare students to move toward a more intensive class structure of our prepointe level.  Students who show a high motivation and commitment are then invited to participate as a prepointe student if he or she so desires.

This class meets Monday and Tuesday afternoons from 4:00 - 5:00 pm.  Repertoire may be added into Session II and Session III in preparation for our 2018 - 2019 Musical Drama Ballet (role and placement to be determined by instructor) and/or Spring Ballet (audition required).

Prepointe: This class is typically designed as a  75 to 90 minute class that meets a minimum of three days per week for ages 6-13.  This class is by invitation only or a student may request a placement exam.  This class focuses primarily on classical ballet technique but also includes tap, broadway, jazz, hip hop, and social dance.   It is an intensive class focusing on technique for younger yet advanced students. Students who participated in our Elite Petite level and who have shown a high motivation and commitment are ideal for this class wherein he or she will continue focused learning based on technique and the artistry of classical ballet.  Core strengthening is a routine part of this class along with advanced stretching exercises.   Most, but not all, students in this class have indicated an interest in preparing for pointe work  in the future.  This class meets both Monday and Tuesday and some Thursday afternoon or evenings - time varies on other studio schedules - please inquire via email to lisa@inhisstepsballet.com as to the specific time availability for this class.

Pointe:  This class runs for 90 minutes and teacher's approval is required. This class meets three times a week typically on a Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and possibly some Saturday mid-morning options.   This class may also include add on times for additional choreography sessions.  Again, time varies on other studio schedules - please inquire via email to lisa@inhisstepsballet.com as to the specific time availability for this class.
